Holly and Heather's Helping Hands

Inspirational Heartfelt Hints

Holly & Heather’s Helpful Hint: A New Beginning for 2013!

Years ago, we received a “handbook” for living better in the new year. It was really just a one page “list” of ideas for better living in several different areas of life. We have tried to incorporate some of the ideas into our daily lives but there is still plenty of work to be done! That being said, we thought we’d share a few highlights from the handbook for you and for us to keep striving for this new year…
1. Live with the three “E’s” — Energy, Enthusiasm and Empathy
2. Don’t compare your life to other’s; you have no idea what their journey is all about.
3. Don’t have negative thoughts about things you can’t control. Invest your energy in the positive present moment.
4. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
5. Each day give something good to others.
6. What other people think of you is none of your business.
7. Make peace with your past so it won’t spoil the present.
8. Smile and laugh more; play more games.

Our sincere wishes for you for a Happy, Blessed New Year!

Holly & Heather’s Handy Hint: Merry Christmas!

We wish you a very blessed Christmas. May you be surrounded in love, peace and happiness on this joyous day!

Holly & Heather’s Handy Hint: Peace

In keeping with this month’s blog posts and the spirit of the holiday season, this week we would like to promote peace. Peace in your life for your well-being!  We are trying hard not to get caught up in the hustle bustle of doing and focusing more on what’s important to us. Here are some hints to that end, in lieu of stressing out and not just trying to cross endless items off of our to-do lists.

We are not going to giant shopping malls, fighting for parking spaces or waiting on long lines in hot stores with cranky shoppers. Instead, we are shopping off hours or on-line to avoid the craziness or even getting creative and making presents. Remember it is the thought that counts when it comes to gift giving!  Spend your time wisely, not traipsing to endless parties but celebrating with those truly close to you. Find peace in the mundane while making out your holiday cards or wrapping gifts by putting on some Christmas music and having a cup of hot chocolate. It won’t feel like you are just trudging thru another thing you have to do. Bake and decorate when you have the time and energy to enjoy being able to eat your goodies while admiring the fruits of your labor. If you are too tired to go somewhere or do something, don’t.  Put on a holiday movie and stay home with your family. That’s how we are truly trying to enjoy our Christmastime this year. We wish you joy & peace this holiday season!

Holly & Heather’s Handy Hint: Getting into the Holiday Spirit When Your Spirits Need Lifting

This is one of our favorite times of the year. Everything from Thanksgiving to New Years is so much fun; decorating, gift giving, eating, parties. But what if you are facing something difficult in your life, as many people are. Or someone really close to you is hurting or ill…how do you get into the holiday spirit and face all of those celebrations when your heart is heavy? Everyone deals with troubling times differently. Some people retreat, others surround themselves with company. You should do what feels right for you. Forcing yourself to be someplace you don’t really want to be is usually not good.  Allow yourself time to be sad. Then, call a friend or family member and talk or just relax together.  Maybe put on some Christmas music, try a new holiday dessert or put on a heart warming movie.  Little things may help to lift your spirits.  Please remember, we truly believe you are never alone and are loved immensely.
