Holly & Heather’s Helpful Hint: Spring Has Sprung!

Even though the temperatures here in the Northeast are still frigid, with daylight savings time recently behind us, you can definitely tell that spring has arrived! Crocuses are budding in our gardens, new birds are singing every morning and it stays light out until after 7:00 pm – woo hoo!

So in this blog, we thought we’d share some of our favorite “early spring” traditions:

* Changing out the heavy drapes in the living room to light linen ones.
* Decorating our homes with spring and Easter-inspired items.
* Replacing the pinecones left out in pretty bowls for faux eggs.
* Taking down the winter wreaths on our doors to make room for spring ones.
* Coloring eggs with our children.
* Gathering with family to celebrate the holidays.

What’s your spring tradition?

This is our 150th blog post! When we set out to write this blog we had one goal in mind: to work together to help make our world a better place. It’s been just as helpful for us to share our thoughts and charitable endeavors about making ourselves and our every day lives better as we hope it’s been for you.

We could all take some time to nourish ourselves, our loved ones and our communities.  A peaceful world is what we strive to live in, and we hope to inspire that sentiment, one small blog at a time. Whether you can volunteer, eat healthier or just listen to and acknowledge others, it all goes a long way toward the greater good – making this world a better place. Thank you for reading our blog and doing whatever you can towards promoting peace, health and happiness. Here’s to 150 more!

Holly & Heather’s Helpful Hint: Spiritual Matters

To wrap up our series on attending to the important areas in our lives (health, finances, social, home), we’re focusing this week’s blog on the spiritual aspects of our lives.  By spiritual, we are not talking about any specific religions but rather your connectedness to a higher power.  Your belief in something more than what you see.  We believe in God and pray all the time for many different reasons, most of all for love, health, happiness and peace.  Many others look inward to stay centered and maintain a sense of harmony in their lives no matter what the outside world brings.

The belief in something more keeps you going, in good times and in bad.  A solid rock on which to lean if you are sad, a place to give thanks.  Maybe your spirituality sees a different picture.  Feeling a sense of peace with others to whom you are close or to your surroundings, maybe in nature.  Faith means different things to people.  You could have faith in your house of worship or in your spouse.  It is good to believe; it can give you a sense of purpose and calmness.  Let your spirituality do good things for you in your life.

Holly & Heather’s Helpful Hint: Home Matters

Continuing our theme of addressing important areas in our lives, this week’s blog will focus on attending to our homes and reflecting the beauty and care we are taking with ourselves to our physical surroundings.  How many of us feel so much better after we clean our houses? It’s funny how such a seemingly small thing can affect us so greatly. But when the place in which we dwell is clean, we can truly enjoy it.

So let’s take it further. Let’s say your home is clean and wonderfully organized. Does your home reflect you? Your style? Your successes? Are you surrounded by things that make you smile? Make you feel comfortable? Hopefully you’ve answered yes to many of these questions. The biggest issue, we find, with these questions is finances. One of us is wishing for a new kitchen in the worst way, but right now it’s just not possible. So how can we feel good about our environments and not limited by our budgets? Or time? Or the energy to tackle that home project? And how do we reflect ourselves in our homes more completely?

One way is to take one room at a time.  Close your eyes and imagine what you would like it to look like despite any limitations listed above.  After you have that vision, what one small thing can you change to work towards that goal?  If you can’t do something big like a new coat of paint or flooring, what little thing can you do?  Putting a bowl of fresh fruit on the kitchen counter or a vase of flowers on the dining room table certainly makes us enjoy the space more.  So we didn’t get a new kitchen but we found a beautiful copper rooster to hang on the wall and it gives off that country vibe that we’re one day dreaming of.

So create a vision for your spaces, if you do nothing else.  Little by little try to bring that vision to life.  Make your home into the place of your dreams!  Your home should be your safe haven in the world, your respite from the outside, a place where you can truly relax and be comfortable.
