Holly and Heather’s Helpful Hint: Spotlight on Parkinson’s Disease

Image result for parkinson's disease

April is Parkinson’s Disease awareness month. As you may remember, our dad has Parkinson’s so we thought this would be a great time to bring attention to something our family has been living with for many years.

Being vigilant about doctor appointments, medications and lifestyle are just a few things that you have to be on top of but we are always talking and thinking of ways to help our dad.  One of our kids recently taught him about music therapy which actually helps a host of ailments.  Playing music is therapeutic, stress relieving and we saw it work first hand!

Our personal point of view is that there is always hope – hope for natural solutions in diet and vitamins, lifestyle changes, new medications, and of course, hope for a cure!  Awareness is needed for so many things, and with it hopefully comes help.  For more information about what is going on this coming month, visit the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation website at pdf.org

Holly and Heather’s Helpful Hint: Have a Joyous Easter!

Image result for Easter love

This week is a special time for Christians around the world celebrating Easter. Even if you have a different faith background, the overall message is important to everyone: Love. We are all loved so much and in turn we need to remember to love back. It is a great way to live your life – giving love, getting love. If we could keep that in the forefront, what a wonderful world this would be. Happy Easter!

Holly and Heather’s Helpful Hint: 200!

Today we are celebrating; this is the 200th blog we have written!  We are so thrilled to be working together and sharing our thoughts and feelings about life with you.  It is our hope that we are inspirational and making some small contribution towards making this world a better place.  It starts with you – maybe a blog sparks a positivity within that keeps growing and in turn you spread the love to your family, friends and community.  Or maybe this blog has helped you work out a problem or think of a situation in a new light.  Keep focusing on the good in your life and the good you can do.  We will do the same!  Cheers to 200 blogs!  Thank you for reading!

Holly & Heather’s Helpful Hint: Gradual Acceptance

Image result for change

We’ve written about the acceptance of change before. Sometimes change is good and good for us and sometimes not so much. There are times when we are looking forward to the change as we are now moving from winter to spring. But sometimes the change is dreadful and we know our lives will never be the same once it is undertaken.

Then there is that subtle, almost imperceptible change. A change from within us that maybe has been taking place for a long time without us even realizing it. It’s like a seed lying dormant in the ground for so long until one day it shoots up from the earth. We instantly acknowledge the new plant and can look back and see how we were watering and caring for it all along!

Sometimes, though, the shift within us isn’t as pretty as a flower. Self-realization can often turn out that way. Knowing that we can’t change others or maybe can’t even change certain situations, we begin to change ourselves. Maybe even unconsciously. Is that making you change for the good or the bad?  How can you steer that change within yourself toward the positive?  Keep hope alive in a change for the better.  Coming to a gradual acceptance about ourselves and our circumstances can be a good thing. It helps us cope and can give us a better outlook.

Holly and Heather’s Helpful Hint: What Are You Waiting For?!

Image result for dreams

We are sure you noticed the double punctuation at the end of the title above. It represents both a poignant question and an enthusiastic statement about your life.  What are you waiting for?!

Here is a trivial example that happened recently: We are both always trying to de-clutter our homes and while cleaning out the bathroom came across a small fragrant sample bottle of shampoo.  It was saved because it smelled so good and it was just enough for maybe two washings.  But then when would it ever be enjoyed?  So, on a mundane day with nobody to smell the delicious scent but the user, it was happily used.  No time like the present!  Do you save your special dishes or good candles for a once a year enjoyment, or pack them away so you even forget you have them?  Read that book, go on that get-a-way, try that new recipe.  Enjoy yourself now!  What are you waiting for!

Here’s a meaningful example that happened a few years ago: We were dreaming of starting this blog but were halted towards trying something new, maybe out of fear or time commitment.  It represented the beginning of a change in lifestyle, possibly of even something more in the future.  If you have been thinking of something large or small, a change in housing, job or hobby, what’s holding you back?  Sometimes planning for something you’ve been dreaming about is a good start to realizing that what you want could be attainable.  What are you waiting for?
