We took a little vacation break from our usual posting day this past week but wanted to wish you all a wonderful Passover and a Happy Greek Easter! We’ll post again on Thursday!

Holly & Heather’s Helpful Hint: Celebrate Earth Day!

April 22nd is Earth Day! What an important day! People engage in activities around the “reduce-reuse-recycle” theme but there is so much more we can do to take care of our planet.

* Plant a tree or a vegetable garden  * Clean up a beach or public park  * As the weather gets nicer, walk if you’re going someplace local  * Wear your jeans twice before you wash them  * Use refillable glass water bottles instead of buying plastic  * Compost  * Try some all natural cleaning products like white vinegar, lemon and baking soda

It all makes a difference!  We need our environment to have clean air, clean drinking water and so much more to be healthy.  Give something new a try to help this Earth Day.  Our planet thanks you!

Holly & Heather’s Helpful Hint: Here’s to Four Years!

We recently celebrated when we posted our 200th blog. Well this month marks our fourth year as bloggers! So we are celebrating once again! We’d like to re-post one of our first blogs from four years ago. (We love the line “Cheerfulness and love are contagious!”) Enjoy!

April 19, 2012…

Have a positive outlook!  Our world presents us with so many negative images and information in the media from newspapers to television and the internet.  How do we keep our heads up when it feels like we’re constantly bombarded?  In order to do good in the world, a positive outlook is essential for putting that loving energy out to all we encounter throughout the day.  Cheerfulness and love are contagious!   A few things we like to do to stay positive are: Sit quietly first thing in the morning, before turning on the tv, computer or opening the newspaper and put our good intentions for ourselves and those we love out to the universe (call it meditation, call it prayer or whatever else you like).  Make eye contact with those you meet throughout the day and smile (this can be tricky – we live in NY!).  Have a long term vision of what you would like for your life and keep that vision in mind throughout the day.  Talk to someone close to you if you’re having a tough day – your friend, sibling, parent or spouse.  We like to talk to each other if we have a problem.  It always helps us feel better when we share and it clears our minds to focus on good things!  What do you like to do to maintain a positive outlook?  How do you try to put good intentions out to the world?

Holly and Heather’s Helpful Hint: Repurpose

We have been doing a lot of spring cleaning lately and it feels so good to get rid of things and organize our homes.  After de-cluttering a room, stop and take a look around.  Is this room bringing you joy?  Is it what you envisioned it to be?   We find that sometimes just staring at the same old pictures and knick knacks year after year gets tiresome and it’s time for a change.  Maybe you are not into a certain style or color scheme anymore.  Pack it up and find a new purpose for it.  Repurposing items is a great way to redecorate without spending a lot of, if any, money.

Here’s some things we did:

While changing the theme of one room a while ago, we stored pictures away.  When the time came to clean up another room, we pulled out that stored artwork to use in the new space.

Don’t throw away old frames, paint them and reuse them.

We almost threw away a used plant holder and instead decided to move it outside.  Usually outside areas can use a little more sprucing up and it’s a good way to not clutter up the inside of your home when you can move things outside.

Get creative with your space and repurpose items.  It’s great to get a new perspective on something old.
